As the quote goes, “Blondes have more fun”, it’s very important to keep your blonde hair healthy. Not only does natural elements such as air pollution, water, and the sun play a role in causing brassy hair, but so does over-styling and processing your hair can leave it with damage and breakage.
Continue to read on for tips on how to maintain healthy blonde hair:
Tip 1: Keeping Hair Hydrated
While many of us are striving for the perfect, fabulous shade of Blonde, we tend to put our hair through a lot of stress. Bleaching and lifting dark shades from our strands can be a very harsh process on our hair. The harsh chemicals can strip our hair of our natural oils and nutrients; this leaves our hair dry and brittle hair. To help bring your hair from brittle to healthy, investing in a good deep leave in conditioner or deep repair mask. Deep conditioners and hair masks help restore moisture that was stripped during coloring. They are also a great way to help prevent breakage.
Tip 2: Protecting from Heat
Put down that blow dryer! The less heat styling, the better! As stated above, lifting your hair to light blonde can cause your hair to become brittle. Blondes need to be extra careful when it comes to blow drying and using heat on hair. Setting your straightener to a low setting and applying heat protector spray to your hair can help avoid more damage.
Tip 3: Avoid The Sun
While the sun and saltwater naturally lightens your hair, it can actually damage your colored blonde hair; causing it to become brassy, which no one wants! If you are planning to have some fun in the sun, we recommend wearing a cute, stylish floppy hair. Bonus, it can protect your face from the sun as well!
Tip 4: Purple Shampoo is your New Best Friend
As Marilyn Monroe once said “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend,”as blondes, our new best friends are purple shampoo. Investing in purple shampoo can help limit brassiness tones and leave your locks ashy tone. Purple is the direct opposite of yellow on the color wheel. This means that purple pigments within the shampoo are absorbed by your hair follicle, and then cancels out any warm tones in your hair.
